P0700

Transmission Control System (MIL Request)

Advertencia — revísalo prontoDrivetrainOM642 V6 3.0L Diesel · VS30 / W907 (2019–Present)

A general flag that the transmission control module has stored its own fault and requested the check engine light — read the TCM for the specific sub-code.

P0700 on the Mercedes Sprinter VS30 is not a specific failure on its own — it's a request from the transmission control module (TCM) to turn on the check engine light because the TCM has stored one or more of its own fault codes. The VS30 uses a 7-speed (7G-TRONIC) automatic on most configurations. To diagnose P0700, you must read the TCM-specific codes (often P07xx, P27xx) that accompany it. Those sub-codes point to the actual problem — solenoids, the valve body, speed sensors, the torque converter clutch, or low/degraded transmission fluid. Never throw parts at P0700 alone. Pull the companion codes first, then diagnose those.

  • Transmission control system — check engine lamp activated.
  • Check engine light (triggered by the TCM)
  • Harsh, delayed, or erratic shifting
  • Transmission stuck in a single gear / limp mode
  • Slipping or flaring between gears
  • Possible no-shift or no-drive in severe cases

A general flag that the transmission control module has stored its own fault and requested the check engine light — read the TCM for the specific sub-code.

  • Companion TCM fault (solenoid, speed sensor, etc.) — P0700 is just the flag
  • Low or degraded/overheated transmission fluid
  • Failing shift solenoids or valve body issues
  • Faulty input/output speed sensors
  • Torque converter lockup clutch faults (e.g. P0741)
  • Wiring/connector or conductor-plate faults in the transmission
  • Scan ALL modules — read the TCM for the specific companion codes stored with P0700.
  • Record those companion codes (P07xx/P27xx) and diagnose them individually; they define the real fault.
  • Check transmission fluid level and condition (burnt smell, dark color, overheating history).
  • Read freeze-frame data for the companion codes (gear, speed, temperature).
  • Inspect transmission wiring/connectors and the conductor plate for faults.
  • Repair the underlying companion fault, then clear codes and road-test through all gears.
  • Service the transmission fluid and filter if degraded.
  • Replace a failing shift solenoid or repair the valve body.
  • Replace a faulty speed sensor.
  • Replace the conductor plate if internally faulty.
  • Rebuild or replace the torque converter if the lockup clutch is worn.
  • Transmission fluid + filter service kit~$150–$350
  • Shift solenoid / conductor platevaries widely by fault
Why is P0700 so vague?

Because it's only a notification that the transmission module set a code and asked for the warning light. The real diagnostic information is in the companion TCM codes — you have to read those to know what's actually wrong.

Can low fluid cause P0700?

Yes — low or degraded transmission fluid is a common root cause of the companion shift/pressure faults that trigger P0700. Always check fluid level and condition early in diagnosis.
